Date: 2010-12-03 08:34 pm (UTC)Jake and I are still trying to convince Gabe we need a cat. Or Jake would be happy with a new fish.

Date: 2010-12-03 08:55 pm (UTC)If you do get a cat, adopt one - there are way too many of them in the animals shelters too :o) A new fish would be awesome! I used to keep bettas - I haven't had one in a long time though :(

Date: 2010-12-03 09:50 pm (UTC)Jake wants us to replace Fishtopher immediately, but I bet if we let it go for a week or so, his insistence will lessen. I'm not even doing a good job of feeding my kid this week so I don't want to be responsible for another creature. I mean, I'm feeding him regularly, but not good, nutritious things that he needs. It's definitely a junk food week around here. :(

Date: 2010-12-05 05:29 am (UTC)but bringing a dog (or cat, or rabbit, or any other pet) into a household in the midst of december celebrations is just NOT a good idea. poisonous plants to munch upon, much less chocolates and various adult beverages, tinsel to injest, and crowds of people to an animal who probably needs some peace and quiet to adjust to a new home and new people? i honestly have my doubts about it.
i'm actually in the market for a dog. i need a little companion animal who is willing to be a lap puppy, who isnt going to pull me over when i'm trying to go walkies with him/her, someone whose main purpose in life is to be snuggled and loved on. i think an older small dog will fill that niche nicely.
but even though i've been looking at photos of dogs online, i'm not getting a dog till january or later, for exactly the reasons i named.
(and while a pedigreed doggie is cool, i absolutely believe in getting an animal fixed so that the excess pet population isnt added to. and you dont have to have "good genes" to be a good pet.)
