The others walked away, presumably to leave her to say her goodbyes and mourn in peace. She was grateful for the distance, and for the fact that they took her daughter with them. She didn't want Sophia to hear what she had to say.

She crouched down next to the grave, her voice low and even. No tears, not for him.
"You were a horrible husband, a lousy father, and a sorry excuse for a human being. Still, you didn't deserve this. I ... I forgive you for what you did."

She stood to leave, her words bitter on her tongue.
