i dunno. the sentiment is absolutely wonderful, and mutts make great buddies.

but bringing a dog (or cat, or rabbit, or any other pet) into a household in the midst of december celebrations is just NOT a good idea. poisonous plants to munch upon, much less chocolates and various adult beverages, tinsel to injest, and crowds of people to an animal who probably needs some peace and quiet to adjust to a new home and new people? i honestly have my doubts about it.

i'm actually in the market for a dog. i need a little companion animal who is willing to be a lap puppy, who isnt going to pull me over when i'm trying to go walkies with him/her, someone whose main purpose in life is to be snuggled and loved on. i think an older small dog will fill that niche nicely.

but even though i've been looking at photos of dogs online, i'm not getting a dog till january or later, for exactly the reasons i named.

(and while a pedigreed doggie is cool, i absolutely believe in getting an animal fixed so that the excess pet population isnt added to. and you dont have to have "good genes" to be a good pet.)

I'm not saying go out and get one right now, just encouraging people to consider rescuing a mutt from a shelter when the time comes to get a pet.
